Iroquois Gardeners

The Iroquois combined their spiritual beliefs with a deep knowledge of both wild and cultivated plants. This talk will give you an appreciation for their cultural beliefs and how these beliefs influenced their approach to agriculture. Their innovative approaches to cultivation are being studied by many agricultural colleges today. You will learn about a particular plant that was as important to our local Native Americans as the buffalo was to the Plains Indian. Local settlers had good reasons to be impressed with the agricultural talent of our local Haudenosaunee, and you will be too!
